When we got a list of movies to watch at the beggining of the year, I figured some of these were gonna be kind of lame so called "classics" just because they are. The first movie we watched, The Shawshank Redemtion, was not at all what I had expected. The movie was interesting all the way through, and the character development throughout the film was great. Dufresne's epic journey behind the walls of Shawshank was captivating by all measures and Morgan Freeman's character, Ellis "Red" Redding, was a stunning role and his performance was great. I really have no complaints about the film at all. Their was an excellent balance of hope and hopelessness and I really think that was the reason why I loved it so much.
